BAYBAY CITY- Visayas State University (VSU) provides guidelines on giving grades and submission of graduation requirements both for non-graduating and graduating undergraduate students after resuming the 2nd semester of school year 2019-2020.

VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin, on April 30, signed a series of memos, including Memorandum Circular No. 49 S. 2020 entitled “Guidelines on Giving of Grades and Compliance of Graduation Requirements for the 2nd Semester 2019-2020” dated April 29, 2020.

In the memo, students in all levels will receive numerical grades based on the ratings obtained from their performance prior to the class suspension on March 13, 2020. All faculty are directed to impose a special grading system for the second semester only.

Dr. Tulin emphasized that any requirements given after the class suspension must meet the student’s access to internet connectivity. Hence, students will not be penalized for non-submission of requirements.

“Your teachers will give you a numerical grade, which will come from your performance until we suspended classes last March 13. However, your teachers may think it best to contact you and arrange for you to complete your requirements or add more. There are very specific guidelines on how you will be graded (OP Memorandum Circular No. 49, S. 2020), guided by our philosophy that no Viscan must be left behind. For one, under no circumstance will you be penalized if you fail to comply with any class activity given during the suspension. Please study the memo carefully for more details.
” he said.

Moreover, the memo also stated that no grade shall be given to students whose overall rating is failing to indicate deferred/withheld. Students will be given a maximum period of one year to submit additional requirements on June 15, 2021 in order to pass the course.

On the other hand, students who have experienced 20% unexcused absences to the total number of hours before the class suspension will be remarked as dropped. However, students with INC marks that are due for completion during the 2nd semester will be given a chance to complete the requirements for another semester.

Meanwhile, graduating students must cooperate with the teacher to resort all possibilities to pass the additional requirements on or before June 15, 2020.

The memorandum also highlighted that no students will be given a failing mark during this semester.\
