BAYBAY CITY,LEYTE-A post mortem report shows that Jeanji R. Oquias , the junior agriculture student who was found lifeless last June 03, died because of suicide by hanging.

Oquias was reported to have succumbed to depression brought by various personal difficulties and life adversities that are in no way related to his studies in VSU.

This was confirmed by his family members when he was visited by Prof. Manolo B. Loreto, Jr., the VSU Dean of Students, and the officers of the University Supreme Student Council (USSC) before noontime today.

Leyda O. Bolacito, the elder sister of Jeanji said that his brother went missing at around 4:00 in the afternoon right after he told his mother that he will commit suicide. Family members rushed to find him minutes after he took a rope from their home and went to a secluded area in Barangay Gabas.

The search for Jeanji continued until 7:30 in the evening until he was found dead and hanging from a tree. His body was immediatly rushed to the Western Leyte Provincial Hospital (WLPH) in Baybay City and was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Jeanji's sister further revealed that they noticed him to be anxious and lonely right after May 15. Jeanji confessed to one of his cousins that he broke up with his girlfriend recently.

Jeanji is remembered both by his family members and close friends as a jolly, good-natured and a very sweet person. He used to work in Manila in a Japanese food company right after finishing high school.

According to his mom, it was Jeanji's longtime desire to finish college that is why he stopped from his work and pursued a degree in agriculture at VSU since 2017 even if he was relatively older than most of his classmates. An opportunity came to him when the free tuition law was impemented by the national government in all state universities and colleges including VSU.

Both the University Student Services Office (USSO) and the University Supreme Student Council (USSC) provided a financial assistance to Jeanji's bereaved family. A wake will be held in his house in Barangay Gabas, Baybay City for three days following the guidelines of the local Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). His interment is initially set in the morning of Monday, June 08, 2020.
