A number of competitive sports including soccer, swimming, tennis (men & women), futsal, arnis (men & women), chess, track and field, and other competitive sports, and Laro ng Lahi for students were excluded from the sports line-up for this upcoming intramurals.
In an interview, Dr. Charis Limbo, IHK Director, pointed out that a number of considerations are taken into account on the inclusion of a particular sport in this year's intramurals.
“There are guidelines and documents included in the implementation. We have to select the events to be competed. Then prioritized the events for our State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA), since we really need to provide athletes for an event," Limbo said.
The exclusion of some sports events is bound by the guidelines presented in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 02, Series of 2022, which mandates the gradual return of all collegiate athletic competitions following the health standards and protocols set by our government agencies.
Limbo also added that the possibility of reinstating the excluded sports in the coming years will be determined by the time of preparation it requires, and the uplifting of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order's strict regulations and provisions on these sports competition events.
Dr. Limbo has stipulated the possibility of including mobile eSports in the next seasons of the intramurals’ roster of sporting events given its growing popularity.
