The Visayas State University (VSU) graced the top 20 of the AD (Alper-Döger) Scientific Index 2023 Top Philippine university ranking while besting academic institutions in Eastern Visayas and ranking 4th in the Visayas.

The AD Scientific Index (Alper-Doger Scientific Index) is a ranking and analysis system based on the scientific performance and the added value of the scientific productivity of individual scientists and provides rankings of institutions based on the scientific characteristics of affiliated scientists.

Professor Emeritus Monina Escalada is the university’s Top Scientist with the most citations in the fields of Business & Management and Communication. Other top scientists are Dr. Victor B. Asio for Agriculture; Dr. Janet Alexis De los Santos for Nursing; and Dr. Harvie Portugaliza in Veterinary Medicine and Medical or Health Sciences.

VSU’s achievements in research is indicative of its status as an excellent research university. In his 2022 State of the University Address (SUA), VSU President Dr. Edgardo Tulin remarked the university’s extensive research and innovation programs and projects.

“We've spearheaded a total of 177 ongoing research projects that generated almost 100 million worth of funds for the university that covered almost 32,000 trained beneficiaries from all parts of the country.”

VSU has a good projection in institutional rankings over the years, especially regarded in its scientific research and human resources development programs along with internationalization, linkages, and partnerships with the global academic institutions.
