The Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers - Visayas State University Student Chapter (PSABE-VSUSC) representatives in the 72nd PSABE National Convention 2023 brought home silver and bronze awards in different competitions held from April 24-28 at the SMX Mall of Asia (MOA), Pasay City, Philippines.
Jules Uel Evan Boldo, Ma. Chely Mae Mercader and Virgilyn Balbuena pulled off a clutch second-place finish (among 11 participating state colleges and universities) after besting the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) in the Bid-ABEst Quizzers: Battle of the Brains clincher round, while Jules Uel Evan Boldo clinched third place in the individual Same Day Edit (SDE) Video Making Contest out of seven (7) partaking students all over the Philippines.
Other notable PSABE-VSUSC representatives are Bea Dayandayan and Gericca Caisedo, who participated in the ABEDIORAMA contest, and Jawrence Benz Casupang, who also participated in the AutoCAD Challenge.
In an interview with Amaranth, Boldo shared the emotions of what went through in preparation for the event.
"At first po I was worried because baka hindi ako makakasali sa National Convention due to academic demands but when I was given the go signal to participate, I was really excited po to bring there my most competitive form. Nung nasa venue na kami, we weren’t thinking of winning anything because the level of competition was really high. I never expected that I will have two podium finishes from different events. All I did was to give my best and enjoy the contests given that it will be my first and last opportunity to attend PSABE National Convention,” Boldo said.
He also added that they are happy to bring the name of the university to the national level.
Along with them are Engr. Eldon P. De Padua, Head of the VSU Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (VSU-DABE) and the adviser of the PSABE-VSUSC and Engr. Arthur Tambong, a former faculty member of VSU-DABE.
