SOGOD – The VSU Pythons Men’s Basketball Team locked a 3rd place finish after a dominating 30-point victory over BiPSU (94-64) in the battle-for-third today at 8:30 am, of the Inter-University Basketball Tournament held at the Multi-Purpose Court of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Main Campus, Sogod, Southern Leyte.

The team’s grit on defense suffocated BiPSU by only allowing 64 points in the entirety of the match.

In an interview with Amaranth, the team captain, Al James Calizar expressed his emotions after the game.

“It was very rewarding in a sense that we gained the 3rd place because we fell short last year during the Regional SCUAA when facing UEP in our battle for third. I am happy that we can compete against tough teams. We have the potential to be more intact and tough as a team.” said Calizar.

Moreover, he stressed on what the team needs to improve for the coming matches in the future.

“We still need to improve our defense and toughness on the court, create a culture of teamwork and selflessness within the team. I believe we can achieve that through constant training and unfailing determination to attain our goal, to win championships in the future, especially this coming SCUAA 2023.”

The team will double down on their preparations as the Visayas State University (VSU) will be hosting this year’s Regional SCUAA Meet.
