Sixteen student-athletes from Visayas State University along with eight coaches and officials are set to take part in the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) this October 1-6 at Tarlac Agricultural University.

Among the delegates is Martin Michael Angelo R. Valenzona, who was the torchbearer of the recently concluded Salingkusog VSU Intramurals 2023. Valenzona and the other delegates were the gold medalists from the Regional SCUAA last December 2022 at Southern Leyte State University (SLSU).

According to Ms. Mary Jean Sapan, the Documents Officer of VSU Pythons, these Viscan delegates have already been training tirelessly with honor and pride to bring the name of the university back to the national sports competition scene.

“We have often joined the National competition, but it only stopped during the pandemic. The events played last SCUAA are limited and not full-blown that’s why we have few participants this year,” Ms. Sapan stated.

Ms. Sapan added that aside from bringing honor to the university, the student-athletes will also receive cash incentives for every gold medal they will garner. This will serve as a motivation for the student-athletes as they compete in various sports including badminton, table tennis, softball, and volleyball.

The VSU delegates departed last September 28 and met with other delegations from Region 8 at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) before going to the venue of the National SCUAA.

Seventeen regions will compete for the return of the National SCUAA after a five-year hiatus. The last edition of the games took place at the University of Antique back in February 2018.
