The Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) meet inches closer and the defending champions of Badminton (Men and Women) and Table Tennis (Women) gear up as they eye glory in their home arena. Having carved out an illustrious legacy of excellence in both badminton and table tennis, the defending champions now stand on the brink of another challenge: a fierce competition and heightened expectations await them on the courts of Visayas State University.

Steadfast Badminton Dominance

In the fast-paced world of badminton, VSU Pythons have consistently displayed formidable prowess that continues to stand the test of time. Their prowess was not contained within regional borders, as they were able to penetrate the National SCUAA 2023, culminating in a commendable bronze medal finish.

Moving into the 2023 SCUAA meet, the roster is bolstered with talented and experienced athletes, poised to maintain their reign. The Men’s team, under the guidance of Coach Aldrin Palermo, boasts Carl Vianney Castil, Ray Vincent Falle, Arhiz Lisondra, Dale Joshua Penaso, and Martin Michael Angelo R. Valenzona. The Women’s team, led by Coach Edilberto Artiga Jr., showcases the talents of Melanne Sacro, Elaine Faye Esperanza, Ella Marie Esperanza, Rachelle Anne Evangelista, and Joan Fay Libutan, is primed to replicate their previous success and bring glory to their university.

Serving with Grace, Smashing with Power

The VSU Pythons Women’s Table Tennis team emerged victorious in 2022, achieving the pinnacle of success in the regional SCUAA. The championship battle against NwSSU Lions was an intense affair, culminating in a narrow 2-1 victory for the Pythons. The team showcased unwavering determination and unmatched skill, epitomized by standout performances from Lara Jetcah Tulin, Adorlyd Managbanag, Jess Rica Caintic, and Niña Joy Pacabis.

Now, as the SCUAA 2023 approaches, the table tennis Women's team stands ready to defend their crown. With a slight alteration in the roster, including the addition of Deina Ela Carrasco and Karyl Mae Inong, the team is prepared for a fierce faceoff, under the expert guidance of Coach Dr. Christy M. Desades.

The stage is set, and all eyes are on the VSU Pythons as they prepare to etch yet another chapter in the annals of SCUAA-meet history.
