After six years, the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA-8) Meet is back at the Visayas State University (VSU) as the battleground for sportsmanship and camaraderie commences its grand opening ceremony today, October 22, at VSU Upper Campus Oval.
With the theme, "Weaving Strength: Hinabing Kusog," 10 delegations from State Colleges and Universities all over Eastern Visayas gather to embody the spirit of fair play and friendship.
Moreover, VSU President Dr. Edgardo Tulin dignified the inaugural ceremony, playing up the importance of collective weaving of strength not just in sports but also in discipline, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
"It is indeed another season of celebrating sports in various sporting competitions, and most importantly, celebrating fun and camaraderie. It has been a well-established ideology amongst SCUAA members, that the ultimate goal of this interschool sports competition is forging and building a better world through sports in the spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play." Dr. Tulin in his speech.
Also, the grand opening ceremony is joined by the Executive Director of the National Academy of Sports, Prof. Josephine Joy Reyes as the Guest of Honor wherein she emphasized that student athletes should create a beautiful tapestry of athletic synergy.
"Student-athletes, your theme today, 'Hinabing Kusog: Weaving Strengths,' expresses the very reason why we are all gathered here. We are putting together all our strong points, all our talents, your skills, your energies, the time, resources, our manpower, to create a beautiful tapestry of athletic synergy." Prof. Reyes in her speech.
To wrap up, the ceremonial lighting of the torch signified the declaration of the opening of 37th Regional SCUAA-8, followed by an energetic field demonstration by selected VSU students and a blast of colorful fireworks display.
SCUAA-8 will run starting today, October 22 to October 27 as delegations from different SUCs compete in various sporting events.
