ORMOC CITY - Echoes of fierce competition and unwavering determination reverberated as the Ormoc City Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Tournament 2024 unfolded. From February 10 to March 2, matches between powerhouses lit the volleyball courts of Ormoc City. Among the contenders, Visayas State University (VSU) emerged as a formidable force, leaving an indelible mark on the tournament with their resilient performance. Despite facing formidable opponents, the VSU Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams showed prowess and tenacity, clinching 3rd place in both of their respective divisions.

The VSU Pythons Volleyball team, under the guidance of Head Coach Federico Godoy, showcased their determination and skill throughout the season. Through a series of intense matches, they displayed resilience and teamwork.

Pythons was pitted first against Western Leyte College (WLC) in a hard-fought five-heart-pounding set (29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-17) leaving the Men's team suffering their first loss. They dominated AMA Computer Learning Center (ACLC) with consecutive set victories 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-14). Facing Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT), they battled through five sets to secure a hard-earned win 3-2 against PIT (25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25,15- 11.) Triumphing over SJC in an intense clash, they secured victories in three sets 3-2 (25-16, 20-25,20-25,25-18,16-18).

Despite initial setbacks against Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), they rallied to win. They concluded the regular season with another dominant performance against Sto. Niño College (SNC). In the battle for third place, Saint Joseph College (SJC) forfeited, granting VSU the victory. Led by Federico Godoy, the coaching staff nurtured talent and fostered a culture of success.

Similarly, the Pythons Women’s Volleyball Team showcased their mettle on the court, exhibiting skillful plays and unwavering determination in each game. Their tournament run started with an intense showdown against EVSU, where VSU faced a formidable opponent in a close battle, ultimately conceding the victory to EVSU. Undeterred by the setback, VSU bounced back with vigor in their next match against SNC, dominating the court with a resounding victory.

However, their journey took an unexpected turn on February 17, 2024, as they faced off against WLC, succumbing to defeat in a challenging encounter. Despite failing to conquer powerhouses like EVSU and WLC, the women of VSU Pythons fought tooth and nail, delivering performances that enabled them to restore their honor and reach for the bronze. Nevertheless, VSU displayed their indomitable spirit in their final match against Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT), securing a hard-fought victory in the battle for third place.

In spite of the challenges they encountered along the way, the VSU Pythons Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams emerged as shining examples of perseverance and grit, leaving a lasting impression on the Ormoc City Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Tournament 2024.
