ORMOC CITY, Leyte – A new queen reigns in Ormoc City, this time VSU’s own BS in Development Communication graduate.

Ms. Aura Shaznay Tumulak was crowned Miss Ormoc 2019 on Friday, June 28 at the Ormoc Superdome, besting 19 other hopefuls.

She was crowned by 4th District Representative of Leyte, Lucy Torres-Gomez and Ormoc City Mayor, Richard Gomez.

Tumulak is an advocate of rural and urban agriculture. In January this year, she took to facebook to announce a start-up family organization that aims to empower various household in the city to practice gardening in hopes of ensuring food sustainability.

"I can make Ormoc a better place by maintaining my integrity as an Ormocana, and elevate one of my advocacies that I always had. It’s a start-up organization with my cousins. It’s named after me, AURA–The Association of Urban-Rural Agriculturists. I’d like to elevate this at the local level and promote this to our mayor and congresswoman because we aim to empower and encourage each marginalized household to plant for their own food sustainability, and I believe that if I am given a chance to become Miss Ormoc, then I could truly make this a reality," said Tumulak during the preliminary Q&A.

As the winner, Tumulak will take home a custom-made crown, a cash prize worth PHP 100,000, and an all-expense-paid trip to Metro Manila to represent the #CityOfBeautifulPeople in the Miss World Philippines 2019 pageant.
