Baybay City- BS Development Communication freshman Hannah Ruel Palejaro placed 1st runner-up in the recently concluded Miss Pintados 2020 on June 29, Monday, at the Luxury Suites, Tacloban City.
Palejaro is an advocate of rural agriculture. In an interview with Amaranth, she shared that she is using pageantry as a platform to become a voice for the farmers.
“I want children to see farming more than what they see in other professions. In my advocacy, just like what others experienced, I’ve been criticized. They told me that if we will just focus on farming alone, we would be left behind. But I did not mind them. I took it as constructive criticism,” she said.
During the final question and answer portion, Palejaro was asked by the renowned television host Mr. Boy Abunda on her thoughts on the LGBTQ+ rights being part of human rights.
“We should not be excluded from protection simply because of one’s different sexual orientation or gender identity. We all have specific roles in life, it may be recognized, to protect and of course to promote the LGBTQ+ members of the society. If we accept LGBTQ+ members we are also building a bridge from fear to hope and from confusion to understanding,” she told.
Instead of a physical face-to-face event, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was held via live stream on Facebook.
