To pay homage to the community where it geographically belongs and instill the spirit of giving, the Visayas State University (VSU) administered GASA UG PANAGDAIT, an outreach program and gift-giving activity at the Pangasugan Elementary School, April 19, as part of the line up of activities for the VSU Centennial Anniversary celebration.
In an interview with AMARANTH, Dr. Aleli Villocino, VSU Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, emphasized the overview and significance of this cause.
“Since the postal address or the location of Visayas State University is in Brgy. Pangasugan, I think that it is fitting that we also have… a thanksgiving to the community...if it’s not also for the Brgy. [Pangasugan], I don’t think VSU will [exist]. We are very thankful that the elementary school partners with the university, but not just the school, the whole community,” she said.
A total of 169 pupils from Kindergarten to Grade VI received food, school supplies, and gifts during the activity. Selected pupil representatives also prepared song and dance presentations to color the event.
Parents, teachers, Brgy. Pangasugan officials also graced the said activity. In her speech, Hon. Aurora A. Lazarte , Punong Barangay of Brgy. Pangasugan extended her gratitude to the different offices and sponsors that made the event successful.
“Thank you so much sa inyo pag-ari… nalipay ko kay niabot gyud ta [VSU] sa 100 years. Magpasalamat ta sa tagsa-tagsang offices sa VSU kay nagkahiusa sila na gipakita nila ang ila pagmahal sa atong elementary school,” she expressed.
Further, Ma’am Gina C. Oquias, School Head of Pangasugan Elementary School, conveyed her appreciation to the Viscan community for choosing their institution as the beneficiary of this cause.
“We are so blessed na kami ang inyo giari, gitagaan. Makita jud ninyo sa nawong sa mga bata ang kalipay. From the bottom of my heart, salamat kaayo ninyo tanan,” she said.
