The regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet officially made its comeback after a two-year halt brought by the COVID-19 pandemic as athletes from all over Eastern Visayas gathered at the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) for the opening program, held today, November 29.

Sogod Vice Mayor, Atty. Jose Ramil Golo, graced the event by stressing the importance of sports in our lives.

"Sports is an integral part of our life. Sports make our life interesting. It teaches us to work hard, push our limits to reach new heights. Sports teach discipline, respect, friendship, leadership, resilience, teamwork, and overcoming diversity," he said.

Atty. Golo also gave advice to the participating athletes emphasizing that winning and losing is part of the game, as long as you enjoy doing the game.

Moreover, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag recognizes the protection and promotion of the rights of student athletes through athletic associations such as the SCUAA, by virtue of the Republic Act 10676 – also known as THE STUDENT-ATHLETES PROTECTION ACT.

Commissioner Darilag further noted the importance of fostering camaraderie, collaboration, and sportsmanship.

The Opening Ceremony of SCUAA 2022 concluded with the singing of the SCUAA Jingle followed by a Mass Dance and grand fireworks display shortly after.

VSU President and PASUC 8 President, Dr. Edgardo V. Tulin officially declared the Region 8 SCUAA 2022 open.
