BAYBAY CITY, Leyte – Students will have to take their final exams earlier than expected for the first semester of S.Y. 2017-2018 as Visayas State University moves the schedule one week in advance. The Office of the President released a memo on Wednesday, October 18.

This is owing to the Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) games that will be held at VSU on December 9-14, 2017.

According to the Dean of Students, Prof. Manolo B. Loreto, the change in schedule is to give the university more time for SCUAA preparations. 'Had we retain the original final exams schedule, this would've left the university only one day to prepare for the accommodations,' Loreto explained.

The last day of exams from the original schedule was December 8. Athletes from participating schools are expected to arrive the same day.

"The preparation for our whole campus such as the accommodations...which are the dorms and academic buildings – we cannot prepare that in one day," said Loreto and added "that's why we requested to the administration if we can make some necessary adjustments to prepare, especially in accommodations."

The new schedule for the final exams will be on November 8-11 for graduating students and, November 24 to December 1 for the rest of the students. Instructors and Professors who cannot finish their class within the given timeframe are encouraged to conduct make-up classes.

VSU is set to host this year's SCUAA games, now on its 33rd year running. Naval State University hosted last year's games, and VSU the year before that.
