BAYBAY CITY, LEYTE- The VSU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) kicked-off its 18th Founding Anniversary for this year’s CAS month with the theme: Advancing Arts and Sciences Education in the 21st Century held last February 3, 2020 at the VSU RDE Hall, Baybay City, Leyte.

The college officially marked the anniversary celebration with a parade participated by students and faculties from the six departments of the college: Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Pure and Applied Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, Statistics, and Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences.

Ms. Kyza Mae Ramoneda, Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) faculty, and Dr. Jett Quebec, Department of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences (DLABS) faculty, were invited to talk for the event. The CAS instructors shared their experiences in the field of arts and sciences.

Dr. Candelario Calibo, CAS Dean, in his opening message, emphasized the importance of espousing arts and sciences in the academe to hone quality students.

“Our theme [also] reminds us that our respective programs require co-grounding of all our curricular offerings as new CMOs are released by CHED. We would strive that the Arts and Sciences education we give to our students while unique on its own,as each one has a distinct mode of inquiry, the characteristic of each discipline would provide a foundation for students to acquire wisdom”

CAS-SSC President Jeremiah Laude expressed his gratitude to the college for actively participating in the significant activity.

“To all the students, especially to the course-related organization presidents and my co-student leaders, I am very thankful to them for their cooperation and for the planning and preparation of this big event. And of course, I also have to thank the heads of the different departments for approving our proposal for this activity,” Laude said.

Activities such as fun run, quiz show, career guidance, and outreach programs among others are lined-up for this year’s month-long anniversary.

VSU President Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin and Vice-President for Instruction Dr. Beatriz S. Belonias were also present during the event.

The CAS month will culminate on March 02, 2020.
