BAYBAY CITY, Leyte— Visayas State University (VSU) just announced that Moodle will be the official e-learning portal of the university for the upcoming semester. This announcement was during the Day 2 of the Student Onboarding Program, August 18, 2020, via live broadcast on VSU's official Facebook page.

Mr. Jed Asaph Cortes, Head of the VSU Web Team, said that the decision to use Moodle as the official e-learning portal of all state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the region was unanimously agreed by the administration and the regional consortium of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).

"The official e-learning portal of VSU is Moodle. That has been the decision of the administration in coordination with the regional consortium for each SUCs. We have the consortium of other State Universities and Colleges and we decided that the official Learning Management System (LMS) for each state university in the consortium is Moodle,” Cortes announced.

Professor Winston M. Tabada, of the Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST), chief of Moodle Development for VSU and one of the source creators alongside system administrators, Magdalene Unajan and Norman Villas, led the session on student learning guide on accessing the e-learning portal.

The discussion presented guidelines on how to access the e-learning portal for new users. Professor Tabada also demonstrated the different features of the portal together and all important procedures.

Meanwhile, Cortes introduced Google classroom as another online platform to be used by other faculty aside from Moodle, and discussed the different functions of the application.

In line with the university’s goal of #NoViscanLeftBehind, VSU has partnered with Smart and PLDT to provide affordable internet rates for students who opted for online classes.

Further details on the registration promos will soon be announced.
