Computer Science students from Visayas State University (VSU) showcased their dominance in the field of programming by securing two 1st place and two 2nd place during the first-ever Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) Eastern Visayas Coding Olympics (EVCO), held via Zoom, October 24, 2023.
Team Piptipipti, composed of Jose Rafael Matienzo, Steve Francis Pada, and Clyde Xavier Salar, asserted their programming prowess by scoring a perfect 150 points with a total time of 1:05:43; securing the team 1st place and a gold medal in the C Programming Category.
In the Java Programming Category, the Big-O Team, composed of Andrae Paul Naval, Xyryz Patagnan, and Keith Derreck Valdeo, scored a total of 131 points with a total time of 2:00:00; securing VSU another first place and a gold medal.
Team C-Matatag, composed of Vaughn Cedric Araneta, Michael Cye Salem, and Nietzchan Jake Lelis, also scored a perfect 150 points with a total time of 1:46:23; securing the team 2nd place and a silver medal in the C Programming Category.
Moreover, Team Rocket, composed of Bea Erin Angel Ramirez, Josua Falguera, and Hanz Felix Tumulak, scored a total of 116 points with a total time of 2:00:00; securing the team an additional 2nd place and silver medal in the Java Programming Category.
Meanwhile, Team Compilers, composed of John Lazir Cañada, John Rhuel Laurente, and Conwell Ardin Maraya, settled the competition with 6th place after finishing with a score of 123 points with a total time of 2:00:00.
The VSU team was coached by Mr. Jomari Joseph Barrera, a Faculty of the Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST).
EVCO 2023 is a programming competition open to all undergraduate students from member institutions of PSITE Eastern Visayas. It is a platform where students can demonstrate their problem-solving skills, algorithmic proficiency, and programming skills by solving complex computational challenges within a limited timeframe.
