Decorated in the prettiest and colorful florals, Visayas State University (VSU) commemorated a special day just for teachers and educators. Attended by almost 200 faculty, the World Teacher’s Day event was spearheaded by the VSU Faculty Advancement Network (VSU FAN) with the assistance of the University Supreme Student Council (USSC) and student leaders from different colleges at the RDE Hall last Wednesday, October 3.
In an interview with Amaranth, USSC President Sanny M. Dumpa Jr. gave emphasis on how important this event is for the dedicated educators of the university.
“Ang main event ani sa Teacher’s Day Celebration is to give tribute to our teachers especially because sila ang mag mag-guide nato towards our future.”, Dumpa stated.
(The main event for Teacher’s Day Celebration is to give tribute to our teachers, because they are the ones who guide us towards our future.)
Further, this one-day event also featured the VSU FAN’s General Assembly as part of its morning program, and conducted the election of its officers. It discussed the VSU FAN AI and the renewal of FU membership. The Board of Director and Treasurer’s report and other matters concerning the VSU FAN were also discussed.
In the afternoon, all other fun activities commenced. The faculty and staff were enthralled as they engaged in fun-filled games like the casual game of “Bring Me” and the humorous “Maria Went to Town”. They were also entertained by the talented performances from the BCAEd students. In between the activities, a roulette with the names of the faculty was spun for the raffle draw, with chances of winning essentials and appliances ranging from body wash, tin can cookies, and wine to kitchen appliances such as a toaster and coffee maker. The grand prize was a mountain bike, which was won by Mr. Anatalio Polinar.
Faculty couple Renazita Come and Warren Come expressed their enjoyment of the event.
“Masaya… Nag-enjoy din ako sa meeting [earlier] kasi na-clarify din yung kailangan namin malaman, as well as yung celebration namin for Teacher’s Day, yung camaraderie [na highlight]”, She stated.
(Joyful, I enjoyed the meeting earlier because it clarified what we needed to know, as well as enjoying the celebration for Teacher’s Day, highlighting our camaraderie.)
Mr. Come has also shared the same sentiments of his wife.
“Nag-enjoy ko labi na sa part sa celebration, naay pa-raffle, naa puy games although mu tan-aw lang…[this is] aside from the usual na ginabuhat [namo] everyday nga magtudlo or magdeal sa students, so maka-relax mi,” Mr. Come added.
(I enjoy the part of this celebration, there’s a raffle and games even though I didn’t participate in it. This is aside from the things we usually do, like teaching or dealing with students, so we can relax)
The program ended with a video message from the USSC as a highlight for the Teacher’s Day, alongside the giving of flowers and greeting cards as a tribute.
