University Supreme Student Council (USSC) President Mark Michael Un-lucay emphasized in his speech that students should learn to speak out their concerns and grievances and address them to the student council.
The new student regent expressed this during the 1st USSC General Assembly held at the VSU Gymnatorium yesterday, September 20, 2016.
Un-lucay assured the students that their concerns will not be ignored and will be forwarded to the right authorities for appropriate actions.
“I will make sure that your new student council will take immediate actions regarding your concerns. I will do my best to represent you in the VSU Board of Regents and will promise to elevate your most pressing concerns to them for appropriate actions,” adds Un-lucay.
Un-lucay took his oath as USSC President on September 8, 2016 at the University of the Philippines Diliman. His term started in August and will expire until next school year.
Insubordinate faculty members
Despite the suspension of classes, some students reported to the USSC that there were few faculty members who still pursued to hold classes and even administer examinations on Tuesday morning, September 20. Un-lucay felt very disappointed for what he heard and said that he will file a formal complaint to President Edgardo Tulin about this matter.
“They cannot do that to us. The President issued a memorandum about our general assembly and they don’t have the right to disrespect the President’s order. I will call the attention of these instructors and ask them to explain their refusal to follow a memo,” says the USSC Prexy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Beatriz S. Belonias, the Vice President for Instruction, gave a stern warning to all faculty members to follow the suspension of classes all throughout the Intramural week which will run from September 20-23, 2016.
“Let me remind all faculty members that holding of make-up classes and examinations are not allowed because the Intramurals is an approved activity of the University. The students deserve to get a break out of their busy academic schedules. This is their time to have fun,” says Dr. Belonias during the opening ceremonies of the VSU Intramural Games.
The Vice President for Instruction also conveyed that they are monitoring reports of students and will call the attention of insubordinate faculty members.
