In a world that is seemingly made by and for men, women continue to brave their excellence through a society that constantly tries to limit them to a mere gender whose worth is relative to a man's. To celebrate the progress made towards women's empowerment, this is to recognize the story of one of the many outstanding women at VSU, Miss Mikaela Gongora.

As a full-time student, it can be difficult to balance classes, homework, and extracurricular activities. But balancing these responsibilities was not enough for one ambitious student. She made the decision to take on a challenge and start her own business. Her name is Megan Besas, a second-year Economics student, and her story as a student entrepreneur is one of hard work, perseverance, and empowerment.

"I think being a woman, you should be confident. Being self-assured eliminates the need to hard sell and prove your worth. Society today tends to be judgmental and one-sided, but a strong woman can surpass it by wearing the look of confidence on her face and wearing strength with grace," Dr. Ciedelle Honey Lou Gapasin.
